In a recent report from Brigham Young University and Harvard, researchers found that students who participate in religious activities or claim religious faith perform better academically. The authors of the report suggest that these positive outcomes result from the moral outlook and resources found within these communities such as, “tutoring, mentoring, college preparation, youth development, and parent education.” The report suggests that a public school and faith community partnership would give all students access to these resources.
The findings of this report have created a bridge for leaders in churches and other ministries to step up and get involved in the public school system. We encourage parents and those who want to invest in the next generation to begin looking for ways to minister in your community’s schools.
