In a win for children and families, two juries recently ruled against Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, and YouTube in two separate cases involving harm to children. In the first case, a California jury ruled that Meta and YouTube were responsible for how the addictive elements of their platforms affect children, and in the second case, a New Mexico jury found that Meta, according to a New Mexico Department of Justice press release was, “misleading consumers and endangering children.”
These legal wins are excellent news for children and families across the country. Social media platforms like Meta and YouTube have continually put children in danger with little to no accountability. We are thankful that these juries ruled in favor of protecting children.
