This past Tuesday concerned citizens showed up at the Watertown City Council meeting. After a drag queen show took place recently during a Saturday farmer’s market in nearby Fort Atkinson, Watertown citizens were on high alert when they learned their flagship city park is targeted for a similar event on July sixteenth. People on both sides of the issue addressed the mayor and city council, most asking the council to use existing ordinances to stop the highly sexualized show that will be very open for and available to children.

The council didn’t have this item on its agenda; so no action was taken. However, thanks to informed and involved citizens, council members and the mayor have been informed with both facts and passion and have a good sense of where the community is on this issue. This is a great example of citizens owning their own backyard.
