Joan was a bridesmaid in Wynn’s sister’s wedding and was told by his father to look after her and indeed he did.
They married on December 19, 1953 in Oshkosh after Wynn was discharged from the United States Navy and moved to Platteville, Wisconsin where he finished college. Joan graduated from UW Oshkosh in elementary education.
Wynn ran a technical laboratory design business in Schofield and Joan was a reading specialist and ESL teacher. Both were active in the community and were founding members of Covenant Community Presbyterian church in Weston. Their favorite pastimes were spending time at their winter home in Arkansas and taking each of their grandchildren on cruises.
They have three sons, six grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren, all of which gather at their lake property east of Rhinelander. Family picnics occur on each of the summer holidays, a tradition which dates back to the 1920’s. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on December 19, 2023.
