It was a June day in 1953 when my brother came to pick me up from my grocery clerk job. Along with my brother in his car was this interesting new fellow. As my brother introduces me, he barely murmured a “Hi.” He truly got my attention though and I later told my brother, I want a date with him. He told me “He doesn’t date girls.” The first date I ended up with the wrong guy. Then I gave my brother strict directions and that date worked.
That’s all it took. We were engaged December 19, 1953 and married November 27, 1954 in Waukesha, Wisconsin in St Josephs Catholic Church. He was 21 and I was 17.
Rudy served two years in the Army 1956 to 1958. I joined him, first in Ft Carson, Colorado and then in Germany. Our first son, David was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1958. This was followed by Linda in 1959, James in 1960, Michael in 1962 and Lisa in 1963. We have 2 girls and 3 boys. We are also fortunate to have 10 grandchildren and 15 great grand children. We have spent many days on walks, traveling to state parks to hike and camp, many sleep overs and family parties on birthdays and holidays and summer family reunions. It has been quite a ride and fortunately Rudy recorded it all on video, which we now watch as we relax and enjoy awesome memories. We now spend our free time cruising and enjoying old age.
Marriage Advice: Love what you do together and enjoy each other. Always show some affection, little good morning hugs, good night kisses, mid day dances or squeezes..
