We met in 1962 in an 18-year old beer bar. I didn’t drink but my female friends convinced me to go out with them. We were sitting in a booth when my friends told me one of their male friends was going to ask me to dance. I did not want to dance with him. So, I reached out and grabbed the hand of the first guy who walked by our booth. I pulled him down to sitting next to me and asked him to pretend I was with him so the other guy wouldn’t ask me to dance. He played along.
6 months later we were engaged, 9 months later we got married, and this year we celebrated our 60th anniversary. We’d both do it again in a heartbeat. We believe God put us together. All of this because I didn’t want to dance with another guy.
Marriage Advice: Always remember why you got married. Because you were in love and wanted to make a life together. Almost everything else is manageable.
