Ray & Sandy Swanson

Ray & Sandy Swanson

I met my sweetheart Ray through a mutual friend. She took me to where he was working parking cars. So, I guess you could say I picked him up in a parking lot. We dated for about two years. One of our favorite things to do on Friday nights was to go to my aunts house to play cards. There was never a formal proposal. It was more or less understood that we would marry. But one night when we pulled up to my aunt’s house Ray said “I suppose you want your ring so you can show your aunt.” And THAT was the proposal. Nearly 63 years later the romance continues.

We were married on March 3, 1962, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After we were married Ray worked at an aeronautics company until his retirement. I worked at a small company packing hospital supplies until we had our children. Two daughters, Lori and Susan. They have blessed us with three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I returned to work at a grocery store after our daughters were in school.

Like most marriages ours had it’s ups and downs. Especially when we were younger. But eventually God showed that we were no longer you and me but us. I believe God brought us together and I know he keeps us together. He is the third person in our marriage. He is with us every day, reminding us through his Word and through prayer, what it is to be loved and to give love.

Marriage Advice: Read the Bible and pray together every day. And no matter how your day has been, never go to sleep at night without saying “I love you” to each other.
