My folks had a big RCA Radio. One day I discovered it had another ‘world’ on it, Shortwave Bands! I loved to switch the bands, tune-in foreign broadcasts and listen to the strange sounds of Shortwave!
In 1958 a Sunday School buddy invited me over to see his Ham Radio setup. I was awestruck seeing his Ham Shack! The following year, I took the Amateur Radio Test and Passed! I received my Amateur Radio License with call letters!
I began high school that fall and met another Ham, Ron Knapp. We also discovered Gene Peranich. A year and a half later, Gene would introduce me to Pat!!! Gail Patricia Bright was a friend of Gene’s girl friend! I did not see Pat again until my Senior year when I was in her bookkeeping class!!! We both said, “Hi!”, and the rest will take a ream of paper to tell!!!!!
A few years later, I gave Pat an engagement ring over Thanksgiving! (I had asked her to marry me the second week after we started going together in high school!) She joyously received it! We were married the following June in 1964.
I retired in 2014, after 44 years of ministry in Christian Broadcasting so that Pat and I could devote the rest of our lives to another ever expanding ministry, our 20 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren who need grandma and grandpa more than ever before!
