We met when his family moved next door to my grandparents. I spent a lot of my summers there. He is three and a half years older than me, so I was still in high school. I graduated in June, and we married in August 1958
We started our life together in Minnesota and had our first child, a daughter, in September 1959. In August 1960, we moved to Anchorage, Alaska when my husband took a new job. We lived there for 18 years, and our two sons were born in 1962 and 1966. My husband had always wanted to farm, and so in 1978, we moved to Wisconsin and bought a dairy farm where we stayed for only 7 years as it was not very profitable.
On our 40th Anniversary, we renewed our vows. We have been marriage mentors for almost 25 years. We have 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren who bring us much joy. Last August, we celebrated our 65th wedding anniversary. My husband has many health problems, and it’s made me think about the vows we said way back. In sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, til death do us part. For sure, God has been the glue that holds us together
Marriage Advice: It’s very important to be evenly yoked and always laugh together.
