David & Elvera Kulas

David and Elvera Kulas (Grandma and Grandpa) are the picture of what an image of marriage is supposed to be. Their Great-grandson, Dan is who wanted to make sure they were nominated to be inducted into the WI Marriage Hall of Fame. David and Elvera made such an impression on Dan that even as a busy millennial, he thought of them when he saw this news last year which in itself, says all about the impression that David and Elvera have left on this family and the community they live in. We as grandchildren and great-grandchildren, dream of having that kind of love that we see Grandma and Grandpa have shared through the years.

Grandma and Grandpa grew up and still live in Athens, WI. They raised 4 children on a dairy farm and their children attended Trinity Lutheran School. Grandma and Grandpa along with other family members still belong to Trinity Lutheran Church today. Grandma and Grandpa instilled family values and morals in our family and if there was unlimited space, each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild would have their own favorite memory to tell. The memory may involve a favorite holiday where we all gathered at Grandpa and Grandma’s home for a meal or a summer picnic celebrating birthdays and anniversaries to a simple afternoon or night spent at their home as a kid growing up.
Their family has been blessed since they married on July 24, 1948, when it started out just the two of them. They have 4 children who married and blessed them with 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
This is a love story that has stood the test of time and we as family members and the community have been honored to be a part of it. I am sure they had hard times as all marriages do, but it’s how they endured and showed us all how to love each other that will be remembered.

Marriage Advice: “Never go to bed mad” has been their advice to everyone over the years and still stands true today.
