“Save the Orcas—But Not the Babies?”

“Save the Orcas—But Not the Babies?”

2015 | Week of July 20 – #1107

During a speech on the US Senate floor last Thursday Oklahoma Republican Senator James Lankford noted that earlier that day the Senate Appropriations committee had “an extensive conversation about the rights of orca whales.” These rights apparently include being able to live in the wild rather than be captured and made part of aquariums and entertainment exhibits.

This conversation happened within a day of the public finding out through a shocking undercover video that the abortion giant Planned Parenthood is directly involved in harvesting and selling the body parts of unborn aborted human babies. Apparently the right to life guaranteed in our US Constitution, and in our Wisconsin Constitution, applies to killer whales but not to human babies.

If you haven’t seen the video, I would encourage you to do so—just google Center for Medical Progress, which released the video (or click HERE). But be aware that it is difficult to watch—at least it was for me. Planned Parenthood’s senior director of medical services, herself an abortionist, is eating a meal while casually and even cavalierly discussing how they at Planned Parenthood go about making sure the requested body parts are preserved during the grisly and gruesome dismemberment of a human baby. In addition, there’s a pretty clear description of a partial-birth abortion, which, per federal law, is illegal everywhere in this country.

Of course in its typical style reminiscent of “it depends on what your definition of is is,” Planned Parenthood stringently defends itself—or rather its bottom line—and says they don’t profit from the aborted babies’ body parts. They are just recouping the shipping and handling costs incurred in making these “tissues,” (yes, that is what they call the lungs, liver, and appendages of the unborn babies) available to research facilities. How Planned Parenthood calculates shipping, packaging, handling costs is at a minimum unclear.

Remember: Planned Parenthood at both the national and state level, is not an organization that exists exclusively on private funding. At the national level, Planned Parenthood receives over $500 million of taxpayer money each year.[1] In Wisconsin, even after the state legislature and the governor stopped at least one taxpayer funded stream of money, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin receives between $15 and $16 million of taxpayer money every year. Imagine what a pro-family, pro-life, pro-liberty organization such as Wisconsin Family Council could do with that kind of funding!

So now that this video has awakened many people to yet one more truth about the dastardly work of Planned Parenthood, what needs to happen? Thankfully, in both Washington and Madison we have some leaders who have immediately stepped up to intervene. Congress is apparently going to investigate Planned Parenthood at the national level. In Wisconsin, pro-life legislator State Representative Andre Jacque is preparing to re-introduce legislation to ban the sale, transfer or experimentation of aborted baby body parts. This bill has been introduced in the last two legislative sessions and has died both times, in spite of Republican majorities in both houses.

Rep. Jacque is also reminding us that he had called earlier this session, for a full audit of Planned Parenthood of WI, he is now preparing to introduce a pair of bills that combined, according to Rep. Jacque’s press release, are “expected to eliminate half or more of the funding each year that Planned Parenthood gets in Wisconsin.”

The Congressional investigation and Rep. Jacque’s bill ideas are excellent beginning responses to this most-recent revolting revelation about Planned Parenthood. But citizens, ordinary citizens, have a responsibility too. Pastors need to educate their people about this organization. Parents need to understand that Planned Parenthood has access to nearly every public school in Wisconsin. Citizens need to put pressure on public officials to take action, not just talk about it.

Just imagine what people who want to protect the so-called rights of the orca whales would do if they thought even a single whale was being abused. They’d be—and they are—up-in-arms demanding that something be done immediately. And they wouldn’t stop until something was done. Are human babies as important to us as the whales are to the animal-rights activists? We’re about to find out.

This is Julaine Appling for Wisconsin Family Council reminding you the prophet Hosea said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
