In a victory for children and families, a young woman from New York, Fox Varian, just won an important lawsuit against two doctors who convinced her to have a double mastectomy when she was sixteen. Both doctors affirmed Varian’s identity crisis and encouraged her to undergo so-called “gender-transition treatments” when she was far too young to make such a decision. Her attorneys successfully argued that both doctors failed to take the necessary precautions to ensure that Varian truly wanted this irreversible surgery.
Doctors who convince children to undergo unnecessary, life-altering surgeries must be held accountable. We’re thankful that Wisconsin’s children’s hospitals have paused these procedures, thanks to President Trump’s leadership. But hospital staff have already committed to resuming as soon as possible. Accountability under the law is the next step in ending these evil practices for good.
