MacIver Institute has released its analysis of the recently passed two-year state budget. The analysis shows this budget contains the largest spending increase this century, creates a long-term structural deficit, and slams Wisconsin residents with billions of dollars of hidden taxes and fees. The new budget virtually wipes out the $4.4 billion surplus and puts the state on the path to a massive structural deficit in the next three years at the latest, along with borrowing over $3 billion.

This analysis shows there is plenty of blame to go around for this unprecedented spending increase, including allowing the unelected Legislative Fiscal Bureau unchecked power over final decisions. Assuming MacIver’s right, this budget will hurt Wisconsin’s best resource—her families—which will ultimately hurt the state. It’s time to evaluate the state budget process.
