The Wisconsin Senate recently approved a proposed constitutional amendment that would limit government overreach by allowing the legislature to eliminate administrative rules. Currently, unelected government agencies have the power to make rules that directly impact the lives of Wisconsin citizens without any oversight from the legislature. The amendment would remedy this issue by giving the legislature the power to vote against rules implemented by these agencies. The amendment must pass a second consideration before it can be placed on a ballot.
The initial approval of this amendment is great news for Wisconsin. Unelected bureaucrats should never have the power to create legally binding rules. We’re hopeful that this amendment will pass, and the people will have the opportunity to give themselves a voice in the rule-making process.
