Last month, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. declared that transgender drugs and surgeries for minors are unsafe and announced that the HHS will withhold participation in "Federal health care programs," from those who help minors obtain these so-called "treatments." In response, a coalition of eighteen state attorneys general, including Wisconsin Attorney General, Josh Kaul, have filed a lawsuit against Secretary Kennedy, Inspector General Thomas Bell, and their offices.
Research continues to confirm that transgender drugs and surgeries are bad for children. This lawsuit is not in the best interest of the people of Wisconsin or any other state. The HHS has not only the right but also the responsibility to protect children from these harms.
