We Face a Spiritual Crisis, Not Just a Mental Health Crisis

The turmoil can be linked to spiritual decline.

Just one day after the full publication of the Covenant School shooter’s diary, a fourteen-year-old boy killed four people and wounded nine others at his school in Georgia. Former trauma counselor Doctor Jennifer Bauwens asserts that America is facing not only a mental health crisis but a spiritual crisis as well, which is leading to the increase in these tragic events. Bauwens noted that queerness, mental health issues, and loneliness are closely correlated and have coincided with a decline of Christianity in society.

Horrific violence stems not only from mental health issues but is rooted in a spiritual battle—a battle intensified when prayer, Bible reading, and the Ten Commandments were banned from public schools. While politicians argue for and against gun control, the real solution to the violence in our nation is a revival of Christianity.
