As housing and healthcare costs continue to rise each year, many families are struggling to get by on less than two full-time incomes which hinders family formation and forces parents to spend less time at home. Writing for Institute for Family Studies, Professor Brad Wilcox provides three suggestions: incentivize and celebrate stay at home parents, increase the child tax credit, and dismantle policies that disincentivize affordable single-family housing.
These are excellent practical suggestions. Members of the Wisconsin legislature should take these ideas into account and work to promote family-focused legislation. If we want our nation, our state, and our communities to thrive, our leaders must support family first policies.
