The most popular story surrounding the origin of Thanksgiving often centers on the Pilgrims and Indians sharing a bountiful harvest four-hundred years ago. But a recent article from Gateways encourages educators to share a different story. In the US, we celebrate Thanksgiving, not in remembrance of that single event so many years ago, but because each year almost every president, starting with George Washington, has asked the people to give thanks to Almighty God for His blessings and goodness.

The United States has been blessed with a deeply Christian heritage. Our founding fathers understood that the bountiful blessings enjoyed in the US were given by Almighty God through His grace and goodness. That’s the theme we should remember this Thanksgiving season.
