JAMA Health Forum recently released a study that found a concerning connection between long-term teen marijuana use and a host of mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. As governing authorities across the country, including in Wisconsin, consider legalizing recreational marijuana use, these results are especially concerning. Leaders in the movement to stop widespread marijuana use warn that the only way to protect the next generation is implementing total bans on the drug.
Thankfully, the majority in the Wisconsin legislature has continued to oppose legalizing recreational marijuana. The studies are clear: marijuana use is bad for young people, families, and the future of Wisconsin. Wisconsin laws should continue to stand as a safeguard against drugs.
