In an article from The Federalist, educator Meg Johnson warns parents and other educators against allowing AI to hinder student creativity, reasoning, and thinking in the classroom. As AI has developed, many educators have allowed their students to use this technology to assist in tasks like brainstorming and writing. But Johnson argues, “When we outsource our learning to AI, we deprive ourselves of the opportunity to learn and grow. God has given us talents and expects us to develop them, not just to bless others, but to strengthen ourselves.”
Although it’s important for both students and professionals to understand AI, it’s also essential for our education system to help students develop their own reasoning and creativity apart from technology. Educators should carefully consider how AI is affecting students and develop AI policies that will help their students grow.
