A new online sports betting platform is raising concerns among pro-family community leaders across the country. Unlike conventional sports betting sites that allow users to bet for or against an outcome, one company facilitates bets through futures contracts. Users sign either a “yes” or a “no” contract based on their prediction of whether an event will take place. Since the contracts are signed online, the site targets individuals as young as eighteen years old even in states like Wisconsin where online sports betting is banned.
To make it worse one local NBA star is now a shareholder in one company trading sports futures. When athletes can profit from sports betting it will result in uncertainty about the fairness in sports. This is just another example of predatory gambling. Gambling preys on the vulnerable and destroys individuals and families and is a bad bet for Wisconsin.
