The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's recent year-end report showed that nearly 37% of 4-K-3rd graders fell below the 25th percentile in reading. To remedy falling test scores, the Wisconsin legislature passed a reading reform law in 2023 which gave public schools until 2025 to implement a new reading curriculum known as the "science of reading." Initial results from the program have shown that the new method is helping students improve.
The success of this program is excellent news for Wisconsin's students. Over the last few years, both Math and Reading scores have continued to fall in our state's public schools. We are thankful that the legislature took action and that these new reforms are helping students improve.
