Pro-family advocates have recently called on Congress to pass the Kids Online Safety Act which was reintroduced earlier this year in the Senate. If passed, the Act would require social media sites to increase safety features for minors and provide more transparency for parents. The legislation was unable to pass in the House of Representatives last year due to First Amendment concerns, but supporters are hopeful that these objections have been remedied in the version currently before the Senate.
This legislation gives Congress an excellent opportunity to make the online world safer for children. Those placed in leadership have a responsibility to protect the next generation. Congress should recognize this responsibility and choose to pass this legislation in 2026.
