Ironically Protecting Baby Turtles

Ironically Protecting Baby Turtles

We care for the turtles, but not for babies.

Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources says this is Wild Turtle Week in our state. The DNR is asking citizens to [quote] “give turtle mothers and the next generation of turtles a helping hand…throughout nesting season,” [end quote] in an effort to help offset a declining turtle population. Meanwhile, few if any in state government seem to be concerned at all about the human birth rate problem we’ve had for nearly fifty years in our state. Rather, many elected officials are bemoaning the lack of access to abortion.

I’m not opposed to protecting baby turtles; but I’m way more concerned about protecting baby humans both in policy and practice. We are not animals, and animals are not human. Recently creationist Ken Ham has suggested we add a seventh kingdom of life, that of the human kingdom, recognizing the unique God-created distinctions between humans and animals.
