Over the last few years, parents and child rights advocates have urged legislators to consider the dangers of AI as cases have surfaced of AI Chatbots encouraging children toward suicidal thoughts and other harmful behavior. President Trump, however, has recently expressed his intention to sign an executive order that would penalize states for regulating AI. The tragic consequences of unregulated AI have driven the Institute for Family Studies and other pro-family advocates to write a letter warning President Trump against signing the order.

AI companies should be held accountable for the harm their products cause to consumers, especially when this harm involves children. But punishing states for regulating AI will only remove this much-needed accountability. Children deserve protection in the online world.
