HHS Launches Investigation into Conscience Rights Violations

HHS Launches Investigation into Conscience Rights Violations

The HHS made the correct decision.

The Office of Civil Rights at the HHS recently launched an investigation into thirteen states that have been accused of forcing various “health-care entities” to pay for abortions. The HHS opened the investigation to ensure that states are complying with the Weldon Amendment which according to the HHS press release, “protects Americans’ conscience rights by prohibiting federal, state, and local government discrimination against health care entities that choose not to pay for, or provide coverage of, abortion.”

Pro-life businesses, churches, and other entities should never be forced to cover abortions in their healthcare plans. The HHS made the correct decision to open this investigation. American churches, businesses, and individuals have the constitutionally protected right to refuse services that violate their conscience.
