Eliminating Admin. “Red Tape” Could Help Wisconsin Families

Legislators should consider this proposal.

A group of free market supporters and business representatives recently sent a letter to the Wisconsin legislature urging them to reconsider a bill package called the "Red Tape Reset." If passed, these bills would create a pathway to remove unnecessary state regulations and rules that burden Wisconsin families. The coalition claims that "Research from the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty finds that reducing unnecessary red tape by 20% would generate more than $2.5 billion in additional economic activity for Wisconsin."

Last year, the Wisconsin Supreme Court handed down a decision that overturned the legislature's legitimate power to suspend administrative rules. These "red tape" laws could help prevent bureaucratic agencies from abusing their rule-making authority by placing checks and balances on this process. State legislators should consider the coalition's proposal.
