Constitution Day

236 years ago our Constitution was signed.

Sunday is Constitution Day. 236 ago on September 17, 1787, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, delegates from 11 states signed the newly drafted Constitution establishing the United States of America as a Republic. George Washington and James Madison both used the word miracle to describe how this durable rule-of-law document came to be. Shortly thereafter the constitution went to the states for ratification, which happened in 1789.

Our Constitution is certainly worth a day of recognition. Why not take some time as a family to talk about how the Constitution came to be and the men who made it happen, including Benjamin Franklin who suggested each day’s session begin with prayer led by a local pastor? Our history is rich! Sharing it with the next generation is a great way to preserve it!
