Earlier this month, California state officials settled a lawsuit from Right to Life of Central California, agreeing to honor the group's free speech rights and pay nearly two hundred thousand dollars in attorney fees. The lawsuit was brought by Alliance Defending Freedom after California Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law that restricted Right to Life from peaceably speaking to women in need on the public sidewalk and street outside of its own building.

California is in moral free fall, and Governor Newsom is leading the way. For us in Wisconsin, California should be a real-life picture of what can happen with a liberal state legislature and a liberal governor. Fortunately, someone in the California woke up long enough to see that this law grossly violated the pro-life group’s First Amendment rights and settled this case out of court.
