WI Supreme Court Will Hear Abortion Cases

The case seeks a "right" to abortion.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that it would hear two cases filed by Attorney General Josh Kaul and Planned Parenthood that will determine if the state constitution includes a right to abortion. Additionally, the Court ruled that it would not allow the state’s three largest pro-life groups to intervene in the lawsuits. The groups, Wisconsin Right to Life, Wisconsin Family Action, and Pro-Life Wisconsin, will be allowed to file friend-of-the-court briefs.

This issued decision confirms what the leaked document indicated last week. The decision while profoundly disappointing is not unexpected—although I was surprised by the court denying the pro-life groups from intervening. When Janet Protaciewicz won in April of twenty-three, we knew this very situation would likely happen. Elections really do have consequences.
