On Monday, the US Supreme Court ruled six to three in favor of Coach Kennedy, the high-school football coach who prayed at the fifty-yard line after games. Coach Kennedy was fired over his post-game prayer. Justice Gorsuch writing for the majority said, quote "Both the Free Exercise and Free Speech Clauses of the First Amendment protect expressions like Mr. Kennedy’s ... The Constitution and the best of our traditions counsel mutual respect and tolerance, not censorship and suppression, for religious and nonreligious views alike."
This is definitely an encouraging victory for religious freedom. The First Amendment was expressly written to protect our right to exercise our religion in just such situations as Coach Kennedy did. We are proud to have been part of a friend-of-the-court brief supporting Coach Kennedy and religious freedom.
Our mission is to advance Judeo-Christian principles and values in Wisconsin by strengthening, preserving, and promoting marriage, family, life and liberty.
