Last Friday, the US Supreme Court handed down a 6 to 3 decision that gives Freedom of Speech a major victory. 303 Creative, a website design company owned by Lorie Smith, in a pre-enforcement challenge sued Colorado for a law that would violate her freedom of speech by forcing her to do wedding websites for same-sex couples. The high court made it clear that government cannot compel speech that violates the speaker’s beliefs and values.

This 303 Creative case is very important in terms of clarifying the limits of state laws that too frequently get used as clubs against conservatives. Justice Gorsuch, writing for the majority, made it clear that freedom of speech is for all people, making this decision a victory for all Americans.
