Gov. Evers Vetoes Protecting Women’s Sports

The bill would've protect girls' sports in K-12.

Earlier this week, Governor Evers vetoed a bill that would have prohibited biological males from participating in girls’ sports in Wisconsin’s K-12 public schools and schools participating in the voucher program. In his veto message, Evers said, quote, “I am vetoing this bill…because I object to codifying discrimination into state statute and to the…Legislature's ongoing efforts to perpetuate hateful and discriminatory rhetoric and policies targeting LGBTQ Wisconsinites, including our transgender and gender-nonconforming kids.”

This veto is completely in synch with Governor Evers’ worldview and priorities. He is willing to pander to this special interest group rather than ensure female athletes have a fair playing field and opportunities. He’s also compromising these athletes’ safety and privacy. A great reminder that elections have consequences.
