Fatherlessness is a Major Problem

A recent Pew Research survey found that Americans are more likely than they were just three years ago to say single women raising children on their own is bad for society. The change has occurred more among Republicans and those who lean Republican than Democrats and Democratic leaners. Some forty-seven percent of U.S. adults say single women raising children on their own is generally a bad thing for society, an increase of seven percentage points from those who said the same in a twenty eighteen survey.

No doubt at least some Americans are realizing fatherlessness is a major problem. But single moms cohabiting with the father of their children or another man isn’t the answer—and the same survey actually found that the number of Americans who believe cohabitation is bad for society also went up from twenty eighteen. Maybe we’re realizing marriage really is the elixir.
