2018 | Week of December 10 | #1286
I had an early Christmas this year! Recently Dan Miller, director of Pro-Life Wisconsin and I, in our capacity as vice-president and president of Choose Life Wisconsin hand-delivered checks to twelve of Wisconsin’s Pregnancy Care Centers. It’s an incredible experience to give money to these fantastic life-saving organizations!
This is the second round of funding from sale of the Choose Life Wisconsin license plates. Choose Life Wisconsin has received over $28,000 to date from the sale of the plates which began in late October 2017. Nearly 1100 Choose Life plates have been sold. Since May of this year Choose Life Wisconsin has awarded over $29,000 in grants to twenty pregnancy care centers across the state.
Being able to give money to these incredible organizations has been a dream come true. The Pregnancy Care Centers in our state are doing phenomenal work in helping women, men and their unborn babies. We know they are using the funds we are awarding them to reach even more people with more services. That’s what this is all about, and it’s an incredible honor to be able to help these centers.
We pledged from the start of this project nearly ten years ago that every dime raised from the sale of these plate would go to the pregnancy care centers. We are definitely fulfilling that pledge. That can happen because Pro-Life Wisconsin and Wisconsin Family Council underwrite all of Choose Life Wisconsin’s administrative and overhead costs.
Visiting the centers is a wonderful experience. That’s part of what makes this adventure feel like Christmas. Meeting with staff and volunteers who are dedicated to their work and are excited to receive these grants is a great reminder about why we’ve worked so hard to make this plate and funding stream a reality.
Every center we’ve been to has enthusiastically given us a tour and talked about the services they offer—or would like to offer. They’ve given us details on the numbers of clients they see and how these clients earn the opportunity to shop in the center’s store for items they will need for their baby. At every one of the Centers we’ve met volunteers, who faithfully help sort donations, answer phones or just do whatever is needed. We’ve met board members who beam with pride as they talk about the director of the center, the volunteers and the ministry in general. We leave being blessed even though our intent was to be a blessing!
The organizations most recently receiving Choose Life grants are Access Women’s Center in Madison, Alpha Women’s Center in Milwaukee, Anchor of Hope Health Center in Sheboygan, CareNet Pregnancy Center of Dane County, Evangelical Child and Family Agency in New Berlin, First Choice Pregnancy Resource Center in Stevens Point, First Choice Pregnancy Resource Center in Wisconsin Rapids, Hope Life Center in Wausau, National Office of Post Abortion Reconciliation & Healing in Milwaukee, Women’s Care Center of Madison, Women’s Care Center of Milwaukee, and Women’s Support Center of Milwaukee.
I’m naming these because you should know about them. And if you live near any of them, I encourage you to visit and get acquainted with the director and staff. Supporting these organizations is a great family service project—from raising money for them to helping with various projects to praying faithfully for their work.
Choose Life Wisconsin’s mission is to spread a positive, pro-life message and help Wisconsin’s vital Pregnancy Care Centers flourish by funding them from the proceeds of the sale of the Choose Life plate. Choose Life Wisconsin accomplishes the funding part because each quarter the state transfers to Choose Life Wisconsin the accumulated monies from the $25 per-plate donation.
The great thing about the Choose Life Wisconsin license plate is it not only funds these great organizations, but it also gives a tasteful but powerful pro-life message with the baby’s footprint graphic on the left and the words Choose Life in red under the black numbers. My prayer is someday we will hear about a woman who changed her mind about an abortion because she was behind a car with a Choose Life plate. In my estimation that’s well worth the $25 tax-deductible fee that’s paid in addition to the normal license plate fees.
Our dream is to have thousands of these plates on cars all over Wisconsin and tens of thousands of dollars going to Wisconsin’s excellent pregnancy care centers every year. You can join the growing ranks of those sporting this great plate and be part of spreading the pro-life message and funding pregnancy care centers. The application form for the license plate and instructions with financial information are available at chooselifewisconsin.com.
