Children: Abuse or Protect?

Children: Abuse or Protect?

2019 | Week of February 4 | #1294

As harsh as it may sound, I believe those who advocate for and push children to question their biological sex are guilty of child abuse.

Fifteen years ago, we were in the throes here in Wisconsin of getting an amendment to our state constitution passed—an amendment that clearly declares that marriage in this state is one man and one woman.  During that 2-year debate and work, I recall saying that the LGBTQ—that’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning—agenda would not go silently away, even if they lost and we won.

We won in November 2006, and those advocating for and pushing the LGBTQ agenda most certainly didn’t go silent or go away. They regrouped; and in June 2015, five unelected, unaccountable lawyers in black robes on the US Supreme Court waved their judicial magic wand and suddenly the entire country had same-sex marriage foisted on it.

We knew this wasn’t the end of those pushing the LGBTQ agenda.  Emboldened by the marriage decision, the push was on to get what they call “transgender equality and rights.”  And the organized plan has been aggressive, well-funded and relentless—and children have become one of the prime targets.

What’s happening with children and the transgender issue today is well beyond indoctrination. Parents, educators, counselors and others are boldly encouraging kids to not just question their biological sex but to actually change it—which they, of course, don’t mention is absolutely impossible. Those committing this child abuse suggest, and I’m confident at times actually push, hormone therapies and irreversible surgeries, neither of which can change one’s biological sex that is determined at the moment of conception. But what those so-called “treatments” can do is physically harm children.

In a January 31, 2019, article entitled “Doctors Speak Out Against Medical Profession’s Utter Lack of Caution for Trans Kids,” written by Jane Robbins and posted on The Federalist’s website, the author addresses in particular how physicians, psychiatrists and so-called professional affiliations have proceeded in bullying medical personnel into using opposite-sex hormone therapies on minors even without good evidence on and with alarming disregard for their efficacy or side effects, which can be severe and irreversible. As Robbins notes about sailing these uncharted seas, “The people who will be swept overboard when the waves crash are innocent kids who have idea what they’re doing and depend on supposed adults to protect them from their impulses.” Robbins aptly adds, “Those adults are in short supply.”

Fortunately, as Robbins gladly champions, there is a group of pediatricians who have not been bullied into submission by these LGBT activists.  She says doctors in the American College of Pediatricians “can be described as profiles in courage” because they have bravely pointed out that the emperor who has “seized control of the medical profession” has no clothes.

In a letter to the editor of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, five medical professionals “lay out the case against the ‘gender affirmative treatment’ advocated by the Endocrine Society,” which heavily pushes for giving minors with gender confusion this treatment. These professionals call for reasonable actions—like randomized controlled clinical trials,” and “urge reliance on existing care models…which ‘have been shown to alleviate [gender dysphoria] in children, thus avoiding the radical changes and health risks of [gender affirmative treatment].’”

The doctors close their letter with this: “Physicians need to start examining [gender affirmative treatment] through the objective eye of the scientists-clinician rather than the ideological lens of the social activist. Far more children with gender dysphoria will ultimately be helped by this approach.”  And Robbins closes her article with, “Perhaps this resistance will expand to include all people, physicians and otherwise, of all ideological stripes, who will finally rise up to protect children from those who would sacrifice them as pawns in a political battle.”

Well said. Children need protection, not abuse.
