.... Constitutional amendment resolutions to limit power of governor's veto have public hearing...finally
Assembly Joint Resolution (AJR) 1 and Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 5, constitutional amendment joint resolutions that would prohibit the governor from exercising his partial veto authority by combining parts of two sentences of a budget bill to create a new sentence, received a public hearing yesterday before the committee on Ethics Reform and Government Operations. AJR 1 passed the Assembly in early February this year.
.... Comprehensive sex education programs in state schools ineffective and offsensive
Five of nine comprehensive sex education curricula reviewed in a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services report released last week are recommended by the Department of Public Instruction in its human growth and development resource packets for Wisconsin school districts. The report found the programs largely ineffective and offensive; instruction on condom use and contraception, sexual role play and inappropriate activites for teens far outstrips instruction on abstinence and marriage. According to the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, "marriage," "natural family," and "family values" can be censored in the workplace as hate speech and in the interest of "administrative efficiency." A California case involving marriage as hate speech was appealed to the US Supreme Court earlier this month. Read more...

A recent study of urban families, the first of its kind, released by the Institute for American Values' Center for Marriage and Families shows the positive effect of fathers' religious involvement on marriage rates and relationships with children, partners and wives. Read more...
.... Utah voters will decide in November if Utah will become first state with universal school choice
Early this month the Utah Supreme Court ruled that Utah citizens will be able to vote on a universal voucher program in November. The Utah legislature has passed two voucher bills this session, one of which, HB148, would provide Utah families with a private-school tuition voucher, ranging from $500 to $3,000 per student based on the parents' income. A second bill made minor changes to HP148. If the Utah school voucher referendum passes in November, it could set a precedent for other school choice programs around the country. Read more...

1. Fourth of July Celebration
Come celebrate the birth of our nation at Midvale Baptist Church, 821 S. Midvale Blvd., Madison, WI on July 4th, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The program includes prayer and special music and a message on God's work in the War for Independence. The Christian Benevolent Society will present the Patrick Henry award to Wisconsin Family Council CEO, Julaine Appling. A potluck luncheon follows the program. Please bring a dish to pass. 2. July 8th, 2007 "Free" Inside/Out Ministries worship services
Sunday, July 8th, "Free" Inside/Out Ministries will be holding worship services at Faith Community Church, 1040 Paperjack Dr., New Richmond, WI. The message will be "The Church Behind the Prison Walls." There will be testimonies from people who served 2 to 35 yrs. in Wisconsin prisons. They will share what God continues to do in and through their changed lives! Services will be at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. A dinner will follow the second service.
