... Proposed legislation raises questions of parental rights, safety for young girls
State Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) is the lead sponsor of the "Cervical Cancer Prevention Bill” ( LRB 0421/3) that would require all girls entering sixth grade in a Wisconsin public, private or charter school to be either vaccinated with the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine or provide a written statement signed by the girl’s parent, guardian or legal custodian indicating the legally responsible adult is electing not to have the girl receive the vaccine. Opponents of the bill are concerned about the safety of the vaccine, funding for the program, parental rights, and unintended consequences of the legislation. (FRI's HPV Information Page)

... Washington state same-sex marriage supporters propose initiative to require heterosexual couples to have children or have their marriage annulled
Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance, an organization of supporters of same-sex marriage, have filed an initiative that would limit marriage to men and woman who are able to have children. If they fail to have children within three years of getting married, their marriage would be annulled. All other marriages would be defined as "unrecognized" and people in those marriages would be ineligible for marriage benefits. Initiative supporters have until July 6 to gather the 224,000 valid signatures required to put the initiative on the November ballot.
... Rep. Sensenbrenner offers amendment to prevent adults (other than parents) from taking minor girls across state lines for an abortion to bill that would ban taking animals across state lines for animal fights
While the House Judiciary Committe has passed a bill (HR 137) that increases penalties for transporting fighting roosters across state lines for purposes of fighting, it tabled an amendment offered by Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) to prohibit adults (other than parents) from taking minor girls across state lines for an abortion. "It’s shocking that the Democratic majority in congress decided to give more protection to chickens than to give to pregnant minor women and their parents and unborn babies," said Rep. Sensenbrenner. ... Pro-family leader target of seeming online death threat; receives apology
A recent posting in a lesbian activist's blog stated the home address of Peter LaBarbera, a pro-family leader and president of Americans for Truth. Shortly thereafter, a series of comments was posted, describing LaBarbera's neighborhood and suggesting a good place for a sniper. The comments were deleted from the site after the blogger, Pam Spaulding, became aware of them. The person who posted the comments, Barry Wick, issued an apology to both LaBarbera and Concerned Women For America, who originally broke the story.
