“Have You Had Enough Yet?”

Do you care where your state tax dollars go? If you do, on any level, then you need to remember that in the budget that the state legislature enacted this past October, $2 million of our tax dollars for each of the two years is earmarked for so-called “family planning” organizations. Research shows that Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin gets virtually all of that $2 million each year. If you add in the federal tax dollars and the other state tax dollars that Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin receives each year, you can quickly get to between $6 million and $8 million annually of taxpayer funds that this organization takes in for its nefarious work.

Over the past several budget cycles, state pro-life organizations including Wisconsin Family Council, have made sincere efforts to strip out of the budget the $2 million per year that goes to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin from the General Purpose Revenue—always to no avail. One of the problems is that Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, by far the state’s largest abortion provider, has way too much wiggle room in the current law.

The law essentially says that no taxpayer money can be used for advocating for abortion, counseling in favor of abortion, or referring for abortion. Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin has long said, with a straight face, in response to those of us who believe they shouldn’t be receiving tax dollars, that none of the money they receive from the state goes for any abortion-related activity; they keep that money totally separate, is their claim. Quite frankly, an overview of their IRS Form 990 and a basic understanding of how such an organization operates just doesn’t support that contention.

In the last 10 years or so, we’ve had some stalwart pro-life legislators author bills that would close the Mack-truck-sized loopholes in the current law—but the bills have never gone anywhere. Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin keeps raking in and taking to the bank, every year, millions of our tax dollars while promoting an unhealthy recreational sex message to our teens, providing so-called “reproductive health care” to our minor children without parental consent or even knowledge, and, of course, killing our pre-born babies by the thousands.

Some of us need to get a different picture of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. This group is not some “feel-good,” innocent organization that is helping our young people. Leaders of this group are testifying and organizing to defeat every pro-life piece of legislation that is introduced in our state legislature. If you think this is an innocuous group, just take a look at the Teen section on Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s web site. Check out the web sites recommended for teens. We’ve looked at many of them. They are all about promoting promiscuity and advocating for homosexual behavior. Much of the legal information provided on the Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s web site is about how minors don’t need parental consent or knowledge for contraceptives—and how minors can circumvent their parents to get permission for an abortion.

What’s happening here in Wisconsin with Planned Parenthood is not different from what’s happening all across the country. Maybe, just maybe, because of some recent events in other states, Planned Parenthood will be exposed for what it really is. Late last week, the news broke that some Planned Parenthood centers have taken money from donors who said they wanted the money used to reduce the black population in their state. This racist, discriminatory behavior is getting some national attention. In fact, late last week the Virginia legislature, after 10 years of trying, sent their governor a bill that strips all funding for Planned Parenthood—and given this racial controversy, the governor has every reason to sign the bill.

This racial debacle is following right on the heels of the lawsuit that is progress in Kansas—a lawsuit in which a Planned Parenthood center in that state has had 107 criminal counts filed against it. The counts range from falsifying documents to performing illegal late-term abortions.

So, when here in Wisconsin do we say enough is enough? When do we put such pressure on our state legislators that they will pass legislation that keeps our tax dollars from funding this predatory organization? When do the legislators begin fearing us as taxpayers and stop fearing the 800-lb gorilla of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin that keeps so many of our elected officials cowering? The answer to all of these questions is, when you and I have truly had it. When we decide no more of our money is going to be given to a group that promotes promiscuity, kills unborn children, and keeps parents of minors in the dark—that’s when it will change. Haven’t you had enough yet? If so, then let’s get busy.

For Wisconsin Family Council, I’m Julaine Appling, reminding you the Prophet Hosea said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
